Is it okay to eat about a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream every day?

I probably eat about a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream every day. I’ve been eating about one pint every day for the past 2 months. I’m not fat or anything, I’m male 5′11″ and weigh 145 lbs. I haven’t really gained any weight in the last 2 months?

Can I continue this?

Oh dear! I know how quick a snack/dessert can become a compulsive habit. I love B&J’s, Ciao Bella, Häagen-Dazs and other premium ice cream. I also bake -and love most desserts. So it’s a real struggle to be moderate.

But the health consequences of having that much sugar everyday are bad. Even if you don’t feel the weight gain now you are spiking and crashing your blood sugar levels and your metabolism will likely change. Sometimes the weight gain is only 1-2 lbs a month, but over a year…eek! That happened to me b/c everyone in my family is skinny. But I took it for granted and ate whatever I wanted then my metabolism changed and slowed down. The difference was that the then family members were always moving around, walking, athletic and eat small quantities of decadent things. It’s the over-indulgence that gets you! I had to train my brain to have a “sugar” a day up to about 35 grams -which is actually a lot. So I choose either a dessert, smoothie, fruit salad, french toast, nutella on crepes or juice. You can eat up your sugar with one candy bar or glass of o.j. -which sucks. So it’s strategy -I’ll eat very healthy all day so I can have creme brulee with dinner. I’ll eat a healthy Mexican dinner -like fajitas with no sour cream so I can have a margarita! Win-win.

Enjoy B&J. But all over-indulgences so catch up with you. A pint a day could easily lead to diabetes -thin people get diabetes too.
