5-gal aquarium on bookcase?
I have a 5 gallon aquarium on the top shelf of a short (waist high on me, 5′5) 3 shelf bookcase. It’s pretty sturdy. The aquarium is toward one side/corner, not in the middle. The bookshelf is full.
I know 5 gallons of water + gravel is like 50 pounds, should I be worried that the bookcase is going to suddenly collapse?
I *do* plan to get a tank stand asap but do not have $ or room now, would have to put it on the floor.
The shelf should hold, the problem will be warping of the shelf. If it is made of a strong plywood it should fine but if it is particle board then you need to get a stand or reinforce it soon.
