Are the slim tower components more expensive than the regular sized towers?

I was looking at the Dell desktops and they have some slim towered ones that are a bit more expensive than the regular towers. Are the components in the tower more expensive in the slim towers? ex. harddrive, video card, memory…
also, can it be updated? like adding additional harddrive space? thanks

The slim/low-profile components are a little more expensive, because they aren’t as widely available. Not as many are manufactured, so supply is tighter. Some models of video/sound cards are only available in standard size.

As for upgrades, it depends upon exactly how much space there is inside the case. You can certainly replace a hard drive that fails, but adding a 2nd one? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

If you want room for future expansion (additional DVD burner, extra hard drives, maybe higher-end video card that requires 2 slots) then stay away from slim cases. Even if there’s enough room to cram in all those upgrades, poor airflow inside those smaller cases causes overheating and more frequent component failures.

Slim cases are fine if you don’t plan on changing any hardware later on.
