Is it okay to put a microwave on a metal cart?
My roommate and I have a small metal kitchen cart in our dorm room. The microwave fits onto the bottom shelf, but it has metal on top and below it. Obviously, metal can’t be put inside the microwave, but is it okay for the microwave to be surrounded by metal? Thanks.
Microwaves are deflected by metal, which are why they sometimes spark and cause a disturbance inside the microwave. But microwaves are pretty well designed to contain the microwaves within the chamber, because any that escape cut down on the efficiency of the microwave plus the danger aspect.
So in this litigious society we find ourselves in, I think very very little microwaves escape from a modern microwave. So metal on the outside, or for that matter, your whole body wrapped around intimately with the microwave, should have no effect on the microwave
